Solidarity with the Emergency Aid of the Homeless Workers’ Movement

The Homeless Workers Movement (MTST) has been organising workers from the peripheries of large cities in the struggle for their rights for 22 years, especially the right to decent housing. During those years, more than 55 thousand families have already gone through the Movement’s occupations. They are people who could no longer bear the high burden of rent, lived within risk areas, have been evicted, or lived in borrowed homes and placed their hopes in MTST.

The whole world has been going through a critical moment due to the crisis triggered by the CoVid-19 pandemic. We know that the poorest ones, mainly those living in the streets, slums and peripheral areas, are the most vulnerable to the consequences of this pandemic due to their precarious living conditions, lack of work and social welfare. Those are the families organised by MTST. Moreover, these workers depend exclusively on SUS – the Unified Public Health System- to be tested and treated in case of CoVid-19 infection. There is, therefore, a severe public health and social crisis.

Our situation is unprecedent and one of emergency. And this is why it is time for individual care and SOLIDARITY! Since most of our governors are treating the situation with total irresponsibility and lack of attention, we therefore reply in an agile and effective way to enable forms of collaboration. This is why we are making this urgent international call for support! Help MTST to carry out this emergency aid by raising funds that will be used to buy food, medical supplies, hand sanitiser… for thousands of homeless families all over Brazil.
